Designed by architect João Panaggio (from the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup), this 380 sqm duplex penthouse in Ipanema, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, was entirely conceived to reflect the new life stage of a couple of women in their 40s and 50s. Coming from a 160 sqm property that could no longer accommodate the couple's routine of receptions and celebrations, the residents sought the architect's assistance from the very moment of choosing their new address. The ideal starting point was this apartment which, with its three suites and generous social areas, offered the perfect potential to embrace the clients' vocation for hospitality.

The renovation had the functionality and lifestyle of the owners as absolute premises. On the lower floor, the layout was redesigned to prioritize the private area, significantly expanding the main suite, which now features a more generous closet and a completely redesigned bathroom. The major transformation, however, was concentrated on the upper floor: the former TV room was eliminated to make way for a large dining room integrated with a covered gourmet kitchen. This strategic change enhanced the connection between the social projects, creating a fluid, dynamic, and extremely inviting social area.

Visually, the project adopts a contemporary and minimalist language, but with the sensitivity needed to subvert the originally cold atmosphere of the original property. Warmth was achieved through a rigorous selection of natural textures, combining wood, stone, tactile fabrics, and specific landscaping that brings Rio's freshness into the interior.

Instead of reusing the residents' old collection, the decor was built from scratch, highlighting an exquisite curation of signature Brazilian design. In the living area of the first floor, the sobriety is complemented by the classic Mole armchair by Sergio Rodrigues, and the N armchair by Zanini de Caldas. In the home theater on the upper floor, the spotlight is on the Fago armchair, created by emDoïsdesign.

To tie the concept together, the color palette relies on balance and subtle contrast. The neutral, light base transitions harmoniously between shades of white, off-white, and sand, serving as a backdrop for the earthy nuances emanating from the furniture and custom cabinetry designed by João Panaggio himself. The final touch of personality comes through the vibrant colors in selected artworks, while occasional details in black provide finishing and an extra dose of modernity to the ensemble.
