Originally signed by the renowned firm Bernardes Arquitetura, this 1,100 sqm beach retreat, located in a 1970s condominium 25 km from the Historic Center of Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro, recently underwent a renovation and interior design overhaul led by architect Gabriel Fernandes, from the CASACOR São Paulo cast.

The project was designed to meet the wishes of a single resident who sought a private oasis to enjoy life with his three children and friends, resulting in a fluid home, open to nature and surrounded by the native vegetation of the Atlantic Forest and the water of the canal that crosses the condominium.

The fundamental premise of the intervention was to dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside. Gabriel Fernandes' intention was to create light compositions that would dialogue with the predominant natural materiality and exalt Brazilianness in every detail.

Among the main structural and aesthetic modifications, the complete replacement of finishes and the creation of a new identity for the façade stand out, which gained brise-soleils made with rustic sisal ropes. The solution, in addition to adding texture and visual identity, filters the lighting and ensures privacy on the upper floor without interrupting the natural ventilation.

The spatial distribution favors coexistence and comfort. The upper floor concentrates the family suites and an intimate living room bathed in abundant natural light. The ground floor brings together the social area, the leisure section and two suites for guests.

The heart of the house is the generous veranda, which houses the living, dining and gourmet space, functioning as a meeting point integrated with the pool with a small beach and infinity edge, the bar, the hammock area and the spa equipped with a hot tub and ceiling showers amid the landscaping. The kitchen and living room, surrounded by huge glass panels that frame the landscape, reinforce the continuity between the indoor projects and the garden.

The palette of materials and colors vibrates at the same frequency as the surrounding nature, combining raw stones, wood, leather, linen, cotton and handcrafted rattan — which delicately covers the living room ceiling. The neutral base of sandy tones and light grays is punctuated by touches of green and blue, referring directly to the beach atmosphere.

In the furniture curation, Brazilian design takes center stage in dialogue with contemporary international pieces and striking works of art. The selection brings together creations by names such as Paulo Alves, Guilherme Torres, Leo Romano, Ronald Sasson, Lattoog, Arthur Casas, Roberta Banqueri, Aristeu Pires, Jader Almeida, the duo Nicole Tomazi and Sérgio Cabral, and the master Sergio Rodrigues, represented by the Xibô armchair. Punctuating the composition, there are also the Italian floor lamp Construction, by Moooi, a sculpture by Jadir Battaglia in the upper corridor and an imposing piece of indigenous art in braided natural fiber, rounding out the authentic and welcoming atmosphere of the home.
