A living room can say a lot about the way a home is lived in. In the projects of CASACOR Espírito Santo 2026, one recurring choice stands out: large-scale sofas, designed to accommodate big groups, occupy space, and organize the room around lingering together.

The shift comes at a time when homes have become more equipped and multifunctional. The living room, which used to concentrate social life, has come to accommodate the television and a succession of devices. Now, some of the projects seem to place togetherness back at the center of the space — not as opposition to technology, but as a matter of priority.

This reading aligns with the national theme of CASACOR 2026, Mind and Heart, which proposes a reflection on the impact of excessive stimuli and the need for reconnection. In Espírito Santo, the idea appears in projects focused on memory, welcoming, and slowing down. The edition occupies the former Hotel Canto do Sol, on Camburi Beach, and brings together 37 projects signed by more than 40 professionals.

The living room as a space for togetherness

In Memórias Todeschini, João Daniel Silva e Martins starts from the art of hosting. The dining table is the sculptural element and the center of human connections, while the fluid layout avoids a rigid division between uses. Fine wood, mineral surfaces, earthy tones, and organic shapes complete the project.

The same logic is present in Estar Pulsar, by Fernando Zacché Arquitetos. The living was conceived from affective bonds and combines black stone, dark wood, and leather in a more enveloping atmosphere. The architecture has a strong presence, but the furniture is arranged to favor lingering.

These are different configurations, but with a similar premise: the living room is not organized around a single activity. It accommodates conversation, hosting, and rest without one use having to cancel out the other.

In De Volta, Débora Bicalho Arquitetura makes this intention explicit by designing a TV room as a response to the excess of contemporary stimuli. Technology is present, but discreetly. Woods, artisanal textures, scenic lighting, and a cross-stitch tapestry take on greater importance, while pieces by Victor Vasconcelos and Rodrigo Laureano reinforce the presence of Brazilian design.

A home made for staying

In Living Maria, Cris Locatelli takes the matter into the realm of memory. Inspired by his mother, the project uses wood, textures and light to build a domestic atmosphere, with earthy tones and faded greens and a china cabinet lined with floral pattern.

The family reference helps shift the projects from the idea of a living room as a decorative composition to that of a home as a place of memories. It is a subtle but important difference: when the project starts from personal stories, comfort is no longer just visual and comes to depend also on what the space evokes.

In the Loft do Artista/Placas do Brasil, Sergio Paulo Rabello reaches another result. Inspired by the creative universe of designer Jay Boggo, the projects combine fashion, art and architecture, bringing together pieces from different eras, contemporary furniture, openwork elements and works of art under a structural glass ceiling.

The mix avoids the feeling of projects assembled from a single repertoire. There is memory, personal references and contemporary objects coexisting in the same space — an image closer to a real home than to an entirely coordinated composition.

The sofa as a symptom

Here the large sofa is no longer just a matter of proportion. Its size follows a change in the very configuration of the living area: less compartmentalized, less dependent on a specific function and more open to different forms of occupation.

The movement also appears in other projects of the exhibition. In Presença – Espaço Gourmet Deca, Geraldo Lino creates an integrated space without physical barriers, with sofas of organic shapes among the elements that structure the living area. In Cooltiva Café e Bistrô, by Studio Sì, circular lounges were designed to encourage prolonged stays and exchange between visitors.

After incorporating screens, automation and multiple functions, the home once again reserves space for activities that do not require any equipment. Hosting friends, chatting after dinner, watching something with company, reading near another person, doing nothing.

In this scenario, the sofa is less a protagonist than an indicator. Its growth accompanies a living room that once again admits that not every space needs to justify its existence by a productive function.
