Returning to Rio de Janeiro after years living abroad brought a very clear desire for the owner of this 325 sqm duplex penthouse in Ipanema: to reclaim the emotional connection with the beach that marked his childhood. More than just a new address, the property needed to be an informal, fluid and welcoming meeting point to host friends and family.

With this starting point, architect Sebastian Gomez – from the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro cast – conceived a proposal based on the concept of "silent architecture" — a design that serves as an extension of the Rio landscape itself, balancing sophistication and lightness to translate the pleasure of being by the sea.

During the construction process, however, the resident's life changed completely with the formation of a new family and the arrival of his first daughter. The program of needs, initially focused on an individual routine, had to undergo a careful review to accommodate family life without losing the essence of the original concept. The flexible architecture absorbed these transformations naturally, resulting in the design of a timeless children's suite and a versatile office, planned to comfortably accommodate guests.

Originally, the property's area combined the former caretaker's residence and common areas of the building, featuring a fragmented construction full of adaptations accumulated over the years. To reorganize the spatial logic and redefine circulation between floors, Sebastian positioned a new spiral staircase in the center of the floor plan, making it the main element articulating the sectors.

On the first level, the integration between living room, dining room and kitchen created a large living space that highlights the abundant entry of natural light. The kitchen stands out for the harmonious combination between natural wood and white surfaces, articulated by a central island that organizes the home's routine.

Throughout the project, incidentally, the joinery plays a fundamental role: in the living room, shelves with movable sides replace the traditional television panels, creating a visual play of transparencies and depths. The corten metal structures dialogue with slatted panels and suspended muxarabi furniture, adding delicate craftsmanship.

The intimate zoning maintains the same welcoming language. In the main suite, wooden panels integrate wardrobes, headboard and support areas, providing visual unity between bedroom, bathroom and office. In the daughter's bedroom, the composition of natural wood, straw and white lacquer creates a soft atmosphere, designed to accompany the child's growth with functionality and lightness, including niches, rounded shelves and a mirror subtly camouflaged in the woodwork.

The second floor is dedicated to leisure and contemplation, designed to function as an extension of the outdoor landscape. The gourmet area features a glass roof and wooden slats, ensuring luminosity and protection.

Clad in Hijau volcanic stone, the pool establishes a direct dialogue with the tropical landscaping and the sea view, complemented by a linear limestone bench. The path to the sauna invites a sensory experience through a vertical garden, pergola and muxarabi deck.

Also noteworthy is the powder room, designed with a sculptural character from a monolithic limestone sink that emerges amid the floor vegetation, while muxarabi panels hide the access door and preserve the intimate atmosphere of the space.
