SP -Arte is even more comprehensive in its 15th edition , at the Bienal Pavilion, and, in addition to paintings, sculptures and other platforms, the design sector is coming in strong this year. This is because, increasingly, design goes beyond functionality and objects often gain the status of works of art.
Therefore, the third floor of the Bienal building – an architectural gem designed by Oscar Niemeyer – will be entirely dedicated to the theme and occupied by 45 exhibitors (12 more than last year). Another novelty is that the sector will be divided into five Cores: Modern, Contemporary, Architects, Independent Designers and Antiques. Among vintage pieces, modern and contemporary reissues, the set presents to the public the trajectory of design in Brazil, with a tribute to the centenary of the birth of Zanine Caldas, one of the most important designers and architects of Brazilian modernism. The architecture and urban design firm Plantar Ideias – also part of CASACOR –, formed by Felipe Stracci and Luciana Pitombo, presents the new Trópicos collection at the fair, combining banana fiber with concrete. Find out more about the launch here. See below a brief overview of what will be presented in each core. Modern
One of the main galleries dedicated to modernist furniture, Apartamento 61 features the Boomerang armchair , a vintage piece that was unearthed in a 1960s home. Loja Teo , another address dedicated to the theme, presents a set of furniture by Zanine Caldas, which has the Armchair N (1954) as one of its main highlights.
Still in the spirit of celebration of the great master, Etel brings reissues of the Z Line, which includes 18 pieces of furniture selected and developed in partnership with Zanine's family. Detail: all are numbered and handcrafted. In addition, this collection highlights fundamental characteristics of the work of the master, such as the love for the forest, for wood, the importance of beauty and artisanal work.
Contemporaries
Two brands are making their debut at SP-Arte : Sollos and Louis Vuitton . The 15-year partnership between Sollos and designer Jader Almeida is celebrated at the brand's stand, which will feature classics from its collection such as the Dinna chair and the side table. Jazz and the launch of a new piece: the Ella armchair . Louis Vuitton presents the Objets Nomades collection, with furniture and objects designed by great names in world design, such as the Campana brothers.
This year, the Ovo brand is launching two new lines. Paisagem brings modular upholstery and Praça, coffee and side tables made of catuaba wood or black granite. This time, with new pieces, Herança Cultural presents creations by Zanini de Zanine, Ronald Sasson , Rodrigo Ohtake and Marcelo Magalhães. And Atelier Gustavo Bittencourt comes with the Benjamin bench, a piece made of solid wood, natural straw and a metal structure.
Architects
New to this edition of SP-Arte , this section is expected to cause a stir among visitors, as it features rarely seen furniture projects by great Brazilian architects. Among the names who will be presenting their work in this sector is Jaime Lerner , who began working in the design universe recently. He presents a set of minimalist pieces, made of carbon steel sheet, which includes three chairs ( Lua Turca , Toinoinoin and W ) and the M armchair , in addition to an unpublished work. And Paulo Mendes da Rocha + MMBB shows the furniture designed for Sesc 24 de Maio. The news is that pieces will be produced on a large scale by Ovo and will be available for purchase.
In the wing of younger architects, Rodrigo Ohtake stands out , presenting pieces from the Pouso line , handcrafted in stainless steel by Mekal.
Independent Designers
Here, innovation is in the air. The idea behind the space is to encourage new designers to enter the market. An example of this is designer Ana Neute in partnership with Itens Collections , who is launching a collection of borosilicate glass lamps, with seven different models. . Estúdio Rain presents the Correntes series, which are three stainless steel sculptures, produced manually with shiny links. And the Russian architect Vera Odyn , from the Russian office Form Bureau, debuts with independent works, such as the Forest installation , which features a vertical mirror with a black background, combined with small steel sculptures. Finally, we also point out the work of ceramist and designer Claudia Issa , for Konsepta , who will present striking and brutalist pieces , capable of transmitting through artistic language the avant-garde style of professional.
Designer and ceramist Claudia Issa , for Konsepta , is participating in the fair for the first time, creating pieces with striking and brutal characteristics. The professional presents the Disforma series, which incorporates the unequal and leads the viewer to understand the parts, before understanding the whole. He also chooses new works, such as Metaforms , which, with an organic language, explore the ramification of form, creating in each object unfoldings of themselves.

In this center, the idea is to take a trip to the past, with antique dealers such as Resplendor Antiguidades e Arte , Homenco Antiguidades and Sandra & Marcio . They will carry tapestries and antique furniture. Rafael Moraes , in turn, presents rare jewelry from the 18th and 19th centuries. .
