The 15th edition of
SP-Arte – São Paulo International Art Festival will take place between April 3rd and 7th, at the Bienal Pavilion, in Ibirapuera Park. The event will feature the participation of renowned galleries, institutions and artists in the art market. art and design. "Over its fifteen years of existence, SP-Arte has expanded its mission and collaborated with the professionalization of the market and the expansion of collecting in Brazil. Little by little, we have contributed to the development of the entire contemporary scene and brought to light poignant themes of world of arts", says Fernanda Feitosa, founder and director of SP-Arte. "
This year, SP-Arte attracts the most renowned art galleries in the world, among the names already confirmed are the international ones David Zwirner (New York), Neugerriemschneider (Berlin), Alexander Gray Associates (New York), Galleria Franco Noero ( Turin), Galleria Continua (San Gimignano) and Lisson Gallery (London).
The most established galleries in the country will be present at SP-Arte and will be part of a week full of cultural events in São Paulo. Among the participants are the traditional Almeida e Dale (São Paulo), Dan Galeria (São Paulo), Fortes D' Aloia & Gabriel (Sao Paulo), Bergamin & Gomide (Sao Paulo), A Gentil Carioca (Rio de Janeiro), Luciana Brito (Sao Paulo), Luisa Strina Gallery (Sao Paulo), Millan Gallery (Sao Paulo), among others.
Soil
In this edition, the Fair decided to pay special tribute to Latin America and dedicated the Solo section to the continent’s artistic production, under the responsibility of Chilean Alexia Tala. Within this curatorial axis, international galleries such as Bendana Pinel (Paris), Die Ecke Arte Contemporáneo (Santiago, Chile), IK Projects (Lima) and Patricia Ready (Santiago, Chile).
Performance
One of the highlights of the previous edition, the Performance sector has a new format: it no longer has a specific space and is once again spread throughout the Biennale Pavilion. Marcos Gallon, artistic director of Verbo – Mostra de Performance Arte, takes on the curation of the nucleus. Throughout all the days of the Festival, the five artists will perform at alternating times.
Repertoire
Created in 2017, the section has a new curatorship under the direction of Tiago Mesquita. In this edition, the art critic and curator focuses on historical projects, more specifically from the post-World War II period (between 1950 and 1980), essential for the understanding of contemporary artistic practices. Problems peculiar to the period, such as crises of representation and a conceptual bias of critical tone, permeate the works of the selected artists.
Design
In its fourth edition, the Design sector highlights iconic pieces and moments in the history of design. Located on the third floor of the Bienal Pavilion, it brings together vintage works by emblematic names in the country such as Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, Lina Bo Bardi and Jorge Zalszupin. They coexist with these works reissued by designers such as Zanine Caldas and Ricardo Fasanello, as well as contemporary pieces by Hugo França, Jacqueline Terpins and the creators of Ovo, Luciana Martins and Gerson Oliveira. A new section dedicated to furniture pieces designed by renowned Brazilian architects features highlights such as Dado Castello Branco, Lia Siqueira, Porfirio Valadares and Rodrigo Ohtake. The debut of SP-Arte 2018, the core of independent designers returns for this edition. This is a space dedicated to stimulating the insertion of new designers into the market and fostering innovative production. Among the names already confirmed are Plataforma 4, Noemi Saga, Ana Neute, Bianca Barbato and the international Form Bureau (London).
