Miami Art Basel . People from all over the world flock to the trendy Florida beach, with the aim of meeting new professionals, innovative and bold creations and art trends.
O artista londrino Banksy recebe uma atenção bem merecida com a exposição itinerante “The Art of Banksy”, no The Factory at Magic City Studios. Estreando na Miami Art Basel, a mostra de dois meses apresenta 80 trabalhos originais, incluindo uma cópia da icônica Girl With Balloon de 2002 . In its 17th edition,
Miami Art Basel will feature 268 galleries and 29 new participants from 35 countries across the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, showcasing works by more than 4,000 artists. The event will run from December 6-9, at the new Miami Beach Convention Center. The main gallery section will feature 198 artists with 12 new artists, showcasing a mix of paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs, videos and digital works.

Brazilians are present, with 14 renowned artists from the country. Among them, the São Paulo natives Luisa Strina, Nara Roesler, Casa Triângulo, Forte D'Aloia & Gabriel and Vermelho, Bergamin & Gomide and Dan, Mendes Wood DM and Jaqueline Martins. There are also from Rio de Janeiro, A Gentil Carioca, Silvia Cintra + Box 4 and Anita Schwartz. Closing the circuit, from Curitiba, will be Sim and Simões de Assis.

This year, the focus will be on Middle Eastern and African art. Hamburg- and Beirut-based gallery Sfeir-Semler will present mixed-media works by Lebanese artists Etel Adnan, Walid Raad and Rayyane Tabet, and Egyptian artist Wael Shawky and Moroccan Yto Barrada. “As we champion art from the Arab world, we try to create insights especially for an audience that may not be as familiar with the socio-geographical and political histories and current situations of the region,” says Sven Christian Schuch, director from Sfeir-Semler.

Miami Art Basel began in 2002 as an offshoot of Art Basel, which was founded in 1979 in the Swiss city of Basel by a trio of Swiss gallery owners: Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner and Balz Hilt.
