Larry Bell creates collection of glass boxes that simulate fog

The sculptures, hollow at the base and top, have four layers of laminated panels, 1.8 m high and a smaller box inside. The visual effect created is hazy, alluding to the climate of Los Angeles, particularly the Venice neighborhood, where Bell worked for more than 50 years.

California fog occurs when cool ocean breezes meet warmer coastal air and condense. The Venice Fog boxes simulate the encounter between fog and the city's colorful lights. While the external parts are dyed the color “True Sea Salt”, the internal parts vary between “Blush”, “Hibiscus”, “Optimum White” and “True Haze”. A set of four smaller boxes (about 30 cm high and 40 cm wide) also make up the Venice Fog collection.
