At the 2019 Venice Art Biennale, Barnaba Fornasetti and Valeria Manzi present Regola del Sogno - The Rule of Dreams, an installation designed for the lifestyle department store Fondaco dei Tedeschi. The large-scale artwork features images from the Fornasetti archive to meaningfully interact with the historic place. The installation will be open to the public from May 8th to November 24th, permeating the entire building. Conceived as a dialogue with the building itself, its history and its memories, the dream universe puts into play two of the most emblematic elements of the Fornasetti narrative: silhouettes of arms and hands and monkeys. "No obscenities or insults, no games, fuss or fights. Otherwise, do business as you please”: these strict rules, engraved in marble at the entrance to the Fondaco building, were imposed by the very serene republic of Venice on traveling merchants. In the work of the two artists, the rules are "reinforced" by the monkeys that hover over the visitors and seem to insult them from above with their irreverence.
