The fire that swept through
Notre Dame Cathedral on the 15th mobilized international forces in favor of its reconstruction, with a competition being proposed for the recreation of its dome. "More beautiful than before" is the goal that French President Emmanuel Macron has set for the reconstruction. To achieve this, several architects have come up with creative and modern ideas for the roof of the historic Gothic building. Check out what has been thought up in some 3D projects.
Russian architect
Alexander Nerovnya has released images of his design ideas. The idea is to create a glass roof, which will bring a modern touch to the 12th century building. In response to comments about the building's loss of character, Alexander commented, "Notre Dame will never be the same again, no matter how well it is restored. So why don't we use all our architectural knowledge and technology to make it better?"
Environmentalism was a central concern in
Studio NAB 's design. Proposing the creation of a greenhouse in the dome of the cathedral, the idea makes it possible for the building to take an active part in addressing the problems of today's society. The design aims to be "anchored in its time, forward-looking and representative of the challenges of our time."
The
Vizum studio spared no effort in developing a bold solution for Notre Dame. The project consists of a tower with a beam of light at its top that reaches the sky. "In Gothic architecture, buildings tried to touch the sky. Le Duc even tried in the 19th century and came close. Now it's possible to make it happen."
Based in São Paulo, AJ6 Studio proposes that the restoration be done with stained glass. “Only one element was used: stained glass. No architectural resources, no intervention of elements and redesign, no ego and no artistic aspirations. Just a religious proposal!”, they declared on Instagram.
