The
BRIT Awards are the UK's music awards for artists, and in 2018, Anish Kapoor was invited to design the trophy that will be presented to the winners. Kapoor currently has an office in London, but the professional was born in India in 1954 and arrived in Britain -Britain in the 1970s. Since then, his work has been gaining ground in the world of design and art, being recognized and awarded, as occurred when Kapoor was honored with the Turner Prize in 1991.
Due to his sculptural work, which challenges the norms and boundaries of adornment, Kapoor was the first sculptor chosen to design the BRIT Awards trophy. For this, the professional depicts Britannia - the female personification of Great Britain - trapped inside a translucent red block. "Sculpture is often a process of both positive and negative form," the artist reported. "I made the award using both," he concludes.
Other renowned professionals have also been responsible for the design of the trophy, such as Zaha Hadid, Tracey Emin CBE, Damien Hirst, and Dame Vivianne Westwood. Karpool has had other notable work, including designing the 178m ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture for the 2012 London Olympics, which is still on display at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, making it the largest public artwork in Britain. The 2018 BRIT Awards ceremony will take place on February 21st
