Paulo Mendes da Rocha is one of the most respected and awarded Brazilian architects and began his career in the late 1950s. He has received the Pritzker Prize in 2006; the Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale for his lifetime achievement in 2016; the Imperial Prize of Japan 2016 and the RIBA Gold Medal in 2017. For
CASACOR São Paulo , it is a valuable opportunity to welcome the architect, who will share with the public his humanist vision of architecture. A line of reasoning present in such well-known works in the city, such as the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MuBE), the Sesc 24 de Maio (where he also designed the furniture) and Praça do Patriarca, among other spaces. Paulo Mendes da Rocha also coordinated the renovations of the Museu da Língua Portuguesa and the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, for which he received the Mies Van der Rohe award for Latin America, in 2000. The Paulistano chair, from 1957, is another important piece by Paulo Mendes da Rocha.
