IKEA 's constant search for solutions that facilitate the purchase of household goods led it to build a new store in Vienna, greener than those in New York, Paris and London. Designed by
Querkraft Architekten , the project with seven floors and 21,600 m² of total area takes the concept of urban mobility to another level, by focusing the design on pedestrians. Located close to the Westbahnhof train station, the store has the brand's image, conceptualized based on an open and accessible proposal. To this end, the building was designed with a green terrace and no parking, in order to encourage social interaction inside and outside the building, as well as facilitating access by public transport and bicycles.
In a statement, the brand stated that the concept "takes into account the significant change in shopping habits, as well as new forms of mobility without a car." With spaces to enjoy gastronomy and stroll, the building offers more greenery than any park in the region, with 160 trees that influence the microclimate – a solution for Vienna which, like other large metropolises, suffers from the effects of heat islands. .
Delivery is only scheduled for 2021.
