Venice Biennale: Villa Magdalena's stepped wooden building

The 16th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale is packed with spectacular projects from Brazil. In the Brazilian pavilion, Triptyque Architecture will present the Urban Forest building, a building that is being built entirely with wood in Vila Madalena, a neighborhood in the city of São Paulo. Paul (SP). It is the first project in the country to be executed entirely with raw materials. The material that will be used is CLT, composed of several layers of solid wood glued in two different directions, which is capable of withstanding great stresses and can be used in the structure of buildings in height.

Scheduled to launch in 2020, the project was born from a partnership between the office and AMATA , a company in the forestry sector. There will be 13 floors with a total area of 4,700 m², where cow orkings will be installed, colivings , as well as shops and restaurants. The idea is to unify the internal and external environments. The project innovates by using wood as a structure, representing a model of sustainable urban construction, since the material is the only one capable of retaining the carbon dioxide accumulated throughout its life cycle. The stepped silhouette of the building allows it to integrate to the rugged topography of the neighborhood, creating an architectural work of art.
