CASACOR 2020: towards ISO 14001 certification

CASACOR São Paulo is seeking ISO 14.001:2015 certification . The standard (2015 version) is a tool created to help companies identify, prioritize and manage their environmental risks as part of their business strategy. Its main objective is to specify the requirements for implementing an environmental management system that enables an organization, regardless of its size, to develop sustainable practices in its business: products and services. And it takes into account environmental aspects influenced by the organization and others that can be controlled by it. Since 2016, CASACOR São Paulo has been working on several initiatives designed to protect the environment. Today, the brand is recognized as an influencer of sustainability and has already achieved significant results. However, to increase its national and international recognition, the show has chosen to apply for ISO certification. 14001: 2015. The architect and sustainability manager at CASACOR São Paulo, reveals the steps and challenges of the process to get there: What is ISO 14001? NBR ISO 14.001: 2015 aims to determine that a company has an efficient Environmental Management System. Therefore, the standard is based on continuous improvement processes, which can be easily explained by the PDCA method: Plan, Do, Check, Action. , Do, Check, Improve, recognized management method, which promotes continuous improvement processes). Why choose 1.4001 certification? As it was determined that by 2020, CASACOR would have an internationally recognized certification for the sustainability practices developed, we chose ISO 14.001:2015. As we fully adhere to the main demands and requirements of ISO 14.001 (we value our waste, control water and energy consumption, inventory greenhouse gas emissions, (this will be offset in 100% of the carbon emissions of the event 2019) In addition to complying with all environmental laws relevant to our event. We also carry out actions that go beyond the minimum requirements of this standard, such as: accessibility and inclusion, financial management, social campaigns, health and safety at work and human resources. What are the steps to get certified? We can define 5 steps that we have taken since the beginning of Lívia Pedreira 's management and that will now lead us to certification: 1. Establish an Environmental Policy: we communicate our vision and make our future objectives clear (our sustainability report has been telling this story, as have all the actions we have developed since 2016). ● Offer the best experience for those seeking inspiration in architecture, landscaping, urban planning and interior design, with low socio-environmental impact

● Promote balance between the needs of society, professionals, sponsors, suppliers, visitors and shareholders. ● Promote Environmental Education for key stakeholders at each edition of the event. 2. Planning: since 2015, we have been outlining the strategy for implementing the actions and defining the matrix of impacts on the environment and society ( see sustainability report ). And, since 2016, we have been putting these actions into practice and identifying all the legal requirements that CASACOR should meet our objectives and goals with each edition. 3. Implement and execute: in this phase, we started the ISO 14.001 standardization in 2019, by creating procedures based on the processes developed with the help of Inovatech. We trained the team (including stakeholders: workers, internal team, third parties, suppliers, etc.) ). We define our team's responsibilities and internal and external communication methods, as well as forms of controls and documents. 4. Verify and act: in 2020, all our actions will be recorded, in accordance with the standard, as we will undergo the certification audit. We will carry out controls to monitor the environmental impacts, established since the beginning of the consultancy. These impacts are described in a Matrix created in 2016 that guides our decisions. They are established in 7 commitments: ● Water: promote strategies for the rational and efficient use of water; ● Energy and Climate: promote strategies for the rational and efficient use of energy. Minimize the consumption of non-renewable resources and greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global warming. ● Waste: minimize the generation of waste and ensure its correct disposal, promoting recycling and reuse in the production chain, encouraging the circular economy. ● Local Development: stimulate local economic, social, environmental and cultural development. Promote the preservation of the Jockey's built Historical Heritage. ● Comfort and Health: promote a healthy environment and the well-being of everyone involved. ● Ethics and Formality: meet applicable legal requirements, in addition to disseminating socio-environmental ethics in the production chain, combat corruption in all its forms, not only by exempting oneself from situations that could be configured as such but also by acting within one's network of relationships. , in order to publicize and implement this positioning. ● Disturbance Management: minimize inconveniences resulting from the construction, operation and dismantling of the event to the location, the neighborhood and the users of the space. 5. Critically analyze: at this stage, auditors assess whether CASACOR promotes continuous improvement of the environmental management system.
