The transition from apartment living to the immersion in a three-story residence in Jardim Botânico, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, set the tone for the project designed by architects Adriana Valle and Patricia Carvalho, from the studio @migsarquitetura and part of the CASACOR São Paulo and CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup.

With the mission of adapting the 480 sq m property to the routine of a family made up of a couple and their two adult daughters, the duo developed an architecture focused on warmth, fluidity between spaces, and social interaction.

The design brief prioritized the functional reordering of the three levels without resorting to major structural modifications. The first floor concentrates the social and service areas, connecting the living and dining rooms to an open terrace.

On the second floor is the intimate wing, made up of three suites and an office. The top of the property is reserved for the leisure area: a family room integrated with the pool terrace, a gym, a gourmet space, and informal lounge areas.

In the outdoor area, the creation of a metal pergola in the gourmet space, new glass frames, and the landscaping designed by Ana Luiza Guinle, connect the indoor projects to the surrounding vegetation.

One of the highlights of the intervention is the enhancement of the pre-existing elements. The original peroba-do-campo wood block flooring, laid in a herringbone pattern, was fully restored and served as inspiration for the slatted panel that lines the main living room.

The material palette balances the warmth of wood with a neutral base of white and gray, reserving more accent colors for decorative objects, fabrics, and the art collection kept by the residents.

Among the furniture, highlights include the Rosá coffee table by Maria Cândida Machado, the Helga chairs by Estudiobola, the Antonio stool by Fernando Mendes, the Gala armchair by Bruno Faucz, the Bossa side table by Paulo Sartori, the Duetto sideboard by Luia Mantelli, and the rocking armchairs by Fernando Jaeger, in addition to signature cabinetry developed by the studio itself @migsdesign for the daughters' suites.

“The biggest challenge of this project was transforming the first floor, originally poorly lit, into a brighter, cozier, and more pleasant space for gathering, without resorting to significant structural interventions,” reveals architect Adriana Valle. “Our strategy combined targeted interventions with a carefully developed lighting project, using indirect lighting, floor lamps, and different layers of light to enhance the projects throughout the day and night. In this way, it was possible to meet one of the clients' main demands, making the social area much more comfortable and inviting,” adds architect Patricia Carvalho.
