Designed by architects Adriana Valle and Patricia Carvalho, from @migsarquitetura and part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup, this 390 sqm duplex penthouse located in Ipanema was fully renovated to suit a couple in their 50s and their two children. Since the residents work in the editorial world and have a strong connection to content production, their book collection and love for reading became the starting point of the architectural concept.

The main goal was to transform the structure into a "vertical family home" — an urban refuge capable of balancing togetherness, lightness, and functionality in the daily life of Rio. Therefore, the project established a clear division between the two floors. On the lower floor, domestic life takes on a more intimate and introspective atmosphere. The reorganization of the floor plan prioritized fluidity between the living and dining areas, creating a continuous social space.

Adjacent to this area, the office can be integrated or isolated by sliding louvered panels, ensuring flexibility of use. Woodwork takes center stage on this level, highlighted by the imposing floor-to-ceiling bookshelf that spans the social wall to house the family library. A sculptural staircase transitions to the upper level, while the tauari wood parquet floor, in a chevron pattern, embraces the projects with warmth.

On the upper floor, the proposal turns toward leisure, entertaining, and direct dialogue with the outdoors. The social projects open up to favor natural lighting and cross ventilation. The composition of materials takes on a more relaxed and vibrant tone, combining blue and white hydraulic tiles on the floor and glazed ceramics on the walls of the support kitchenette.

The kitchenette integrates with the living area and extends to the terrace, where the pool dialogues with the landscape design by Anna Luiza Rothier (also part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup). A large masonry and wood bench — a signature element in the firm's language — completes the outdoor area with comfort and practicality.

The decoration followed a complete renovation, combining custom-designed furniture with signature pieces by @migsdesign, such as the Flamboyant shelving set and the Ipanema and Pasargada racks. The material palette prioritized durability and resistance to the beach climate, set on a neutral base of wood, white, and black details, punctuated by subtle touches of blue and green in fabrics and decorative objects.
