In the heart of the traditional Lourdes neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte, this apartment of 300 sq m underwent a radical transformation to adapt to the routine of its owner — a young architect with a keen eye for design and for the essence of contemporary living. The goal of the project signed by Lucas Lage (from the CASACOR Minas Gerais lineup) was to create a refuge that masterfully balanced the vocation for hosting friends and family with the need for a cozy intimate space, dedicated to rest and concentration.

The original floor plan, characterized by compartmentalized projects and a rigid sectorization, gave way to a fluid, versatile and dynamic layout. To enable the desired integration between living room, dining room, kitchen and balcony, the renovation relied on the use of metal structural beams. The technical solution allowed the removal of limiting structural elements and the opening of large spans, enhancing the natural lighting and cross ventilation provided by the property's original windows.

The choice of materials plays a central role in the project's narrative. The neutral and sober color palette — based on shades of black, white and gray — serves as a backdrop for a rich combination of textures.

In the social area, a cementitious coating envelops floor, walls and ceiling, providing an urban and continuous atmosphere, while the integrated balcony is delimited by rustic ceramic tiles and the kitchen gains practical elegance with slate countertops. In contrast, the intimate area preserves and exalts the warmth of the original peroba wood floor.

The furniture reflects the refined aesthetic sensibility of the resident, bringing together iconic pieces of national and international design, such as the UP armchair, by Gaetano Pesce, and the Mole armchair, by Sergio Rodrigues. The collection is complemented by items from Zanini de Zanine, Pedro Useche and Wentz Design, in addition to furniture designed to order by the architect himself, such as the dining table and the rack. Objects gathered on trips, such as the rug brought from Turkey, and artworks by names such as Bruno Rios and Pitágoras Lopes give personality and affective value to the spaces.

The lighting design was planned as a fundamental architectural element, balancing scenic and functional light. In the dining room, the highlight is the use of a tensioned screen that emits diffuse, soft, and homogeneous lighting over the projects.

In the intimate spaces, such as the master suite — which had its layout completely redesigned and the bathroom floor raised to readjust the plumbing —, the indirect lighting ensures maximum visual comfort.
