Boho soul and affective memories guide the renovation of this 350 sqm apartment

With a striking boho proposal full of emotional memory, this apartment of 350 sqm located in the Alto de Pinheiros neighborhood, in São Paulo, underwent a wide-ranging renovation and interior redesign led by architect Rodra Cunha, head of the Rodraarq studio and part of the CASACOR São Paulo lineup.

The project was born with the mission of creating a spacious, welcoming, and functional home for a mother who works outside the home and her two children, reconciling the desire to host friends and family without interfering with the children's routine and tranquility.

The result of the historic merging of three apartments in an old building, the property presented structural challenges during construction, requiring precise solutions to work around pillars, beams, and discrepancies in relation to the original floor plans.

The new spatial distribution divided the floor plan into two well-defined wings based on the living areas. On the left side are the master bedroom, the office, the home theater, and a generous 26 sqm closet — made possible by combining two former bedrooms. The master bathroom was also expanded with the elimination of an existing bathroom, allowing for the installation of a soaking tub.

On the opposite side are the children's bedrooms and closet, along with a new guest suite, which took the place of a former closet. The support and service areas — comprising kitchen, pantry, lunch room, storage room, and laundry — are concentrated at the rear.

The aesthetic concept was inspired by the boho style, integrating vintage and contemporary elements that reflect the resident's identity. Since the client already owned a collection full of sentimental pieces and vintage furniture finds — such as the chandeliers inherited from her grandmother, the coffee table, and the Persian rugs —, the choice was to create a neutral and timeless base to highlight these iconic objects.

The wooden parquet floor sets a cozy atmosphere, while the combination of golden metals, custom-made cabinetry, and modern furniture ensures a balance between the old and the new.

The intervention also required a complete modernization of parts of the infrastructure. The existing boilers were replaced, electrical and lighting points were redistributed to meet the new layouts, and new hydraulic networks were created to supply the bathtub, the new countertop, and the toilet reconfigured in the master bathroom.
