Doug Aitken's video series reflects on isolation and technology

In a new video series, American artist Doug Aitken invites us to reflect on isolation and technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. The visual installation explores the artist's creative process and is divided into two parts: "New Horizon" and "Don't Forget to Breathe". In the first presentation, a mirrored balloon lights up and moves in the dark, depicting an encounter with the "new horizon". More recently, the second part explores the overlap between the physical and technological worlds, in an intimate interpretation of the theme "don't forget to breathe".

In this one, three figures take shape in an abandoned storefront in California and shine through a pulse of light that oscillates within the sculptures. The light simultaneously brings them closer and further apart, a metaphor for connection and isolation. The installation investigates the transformation of the material and immaterial world, as we increasingly enter an era in which interpersonal connection is replaced by digital.[newsletter]
