Heloisa Amaral Peixoto gives tips on Art Basel Miami

Collectors, artists, curators and gallery owners from all continents are warming up for the big Art Basel Miami week opening the first week of December!

Now in its 14th edition, the event that never brings together less than 300 international galleries, transforms the city into the capital of art in the last month of the year, accompanied by 22 satellite fairs distributed between the areas of Miami Beach and Midtown Miami.

Over the course of a week, you can experience a multiculturalism of artistic expressions and you need to be very energetic to follow the movement created by all the parallel events, in addition to the fair itself. There are lectures, performances, exhibition openings, cocktails and brunches, as well as visits to museums and private collections such as Margulies, Rubell, Cisneros-Fontanals and De La Cruz, which have established offices in the city and create special programs for the period. And Design is also on the move...

With a huge vocation for the creative market, local entrepreneurs and cultural promoters understood that Miami should also provide a great global forum for design and architecture. Thus, over the course of a decade, the Design Miami Fair has distinguished itself each year, in the same week as Art Basel, as the most prestigious and influential international meeting in the area.

Take some time to visit the Perez Art Museum Miami. Jamaican artist Nari Ward, who lives in New York, presents his "first major show". The artist, who has been making a name for himself on the contemporary scene, works in a variety of media and brings together his videos, photographs, sculptures, and collages in this exhibition, a production full of tactical and visceral sense, his strong characteristics.

While at PAMM, special attention is given to an area reserved for a selection of the collection of the couple Dennis and Debra Scholl (one of the best-known contemporary collections in the city). Entitled "No Bounderies: Aboriginal Australian Contemporary Abstract Painting", 46 surprising paintings are displayed in three rooms, selected from a set of 400 works produced by Aboriginal artists and belonging to the collection.

In South Beach, on the corner of 10th and Washington Avenue, a wonderful surprise awaits you when you enter The Wolfsonian Museum. Curator Christian Larsen has collected precious items for his project/exhibition "Philodendron: From Pan American Exotic to Modernism" ( http://acordacasa.com.br/2015/10/26/floresta-em-foco/ ), pieces that you'll want to take home. The exhibition's proposal, which combines botany, art, design and fashion, proves in an attractive way that, although distinct, artistic expressions are always interdisciplinary. Stop by the museum's excellent gift shop, buy a souvenir, have a coffee and enjoy!
