Oscar Niemeyer Award announces winners of the 2018 edition!

On Tuesday, October 23, the jury of the Oscar Niemeyer Latin American Architecture Award announced the winners of the second edition. The award was created as an initiative of the Latin American Architecture Biennial Network, REDBAAL, to recognize the best in architectural production.

Centro Cultural Teopanzolco, de Isaac Broid + PRODUCTORA (Jaime Navarro)

The first prize was awarded to the Teopanzolco Cultural Center , by Isaac Broid + PRODUCTORA, from Mexico. The jury, composed of Carla Juaçaba, Cesar Shundi, Carlos Jimenez, Fabia Farfán and Jean-Pierre Crousse, released a report that highlighted the strength of the project: "We highlight the tectonic and iconic strength of this work, which, with its generous simplicity, offers multiple uses - from pavilion to stage, from cultural center to essential monument, from painting to backdrop. In its economical geometry, this beautiful work creates new public spaces of varying scales that contribute to the desirable relationship between architecture and city."

The second prize went to the Pachacamac Museum , by Patricia Llosa and Rodolfo Cortegana of Llosa Cortegana Arquitectos in Peru. Here, the jury was guided by the project's strong relationship and contrast with the desert landscape, which highlights the country's ancestral culture between stone walls and concrete volumes.

Moradias Infantis, de Aleph Zero + Rosenbaum (Leonardo Finotti)

The third prize went to the Moradias Infantis project, by architects Gustavo Utrabo and Pedro Duschenes, from Aleph Zero, in partnership with Marcelo Rosenbaum and Adriana Benguela, from Rosenbaum. The project stood out for its horizontality, in dialogue with the rural landscape in which it is located. The prefabricated roof of the wooden structure served as protection for the work and, after it, guarantees environmental quality to users, since the region has a hot and rainy climate.
