Concern for the environment was one of the priorities of Bar do Jardim , created by architect Marcos Caracho at CASACOR São Paulo 2017. The project invested in intelligent solutions and managed to create a plastic and functional space, with an atmosphere rich in geometric rigor and materials. with industrial inspiration.

The space was located in a connecting area between two pavilions of the Jockey Club, as the building has been listed as a historical heritage site since 2010, Caracho had to preserve the original structures of the facility, while proposing a new look at the architecture of the local. "The starting point was to work from what already existed," says the professional.

To avoid drilling and damaging the old coverings, the architect covered these structures with steel sheets and reforested wood. “Since it is a listed piece of furniture, the idea was to create a system in which we would not have to make any holes, the objective was to make a completely loose structure", he explains. Caracho used auxiliary systems to fix the metal sheets and reduce the ceiling height in some areas. In the areas where the original height of the building was maintained, rope curtains were used as internal closure, thus providing an interesting play of light and shadow. . Energy savings were guaranteed by natural lighting, achieved by the glass enclosure used on the side of the project, the filtering of light intensity was controlled by blinds.
Using a system of beams, the Portuguese mosaic ramp was planned and covered by a raised floor made of reforested wood. The feature created a difference in level on the floor that allowed the room to be divided into three parts. The highest area was designated for the functional areas, such as the bar and the kitchen, the middle area received the lounge and the last one was transformed into a more private space.

The conscious use of materials, such as certified reforested wood and water-based varnishes and finishes, was one of the highlights of the project. As was the option for natural finishes, used on the floor, the panels, the brise-soleil and the exposed concrete bases. The choices were designed to fit in with the technological proposal of the space and facilitate dismantling and reuse after the end of the exhibition.

The idea worked. “All of this was easily dismantled, without much debris or disruption. All of this material is already being reused, so the idea worked,” says Caracho. Half of the steel sheets have already been reused, as has the aluminum honeycomb, which It was located outside, has already been sold and will be used in another project, and the wooden flooring material will also be relocated to another project by the architect.
