Built in 1953 and closed since 2019, the former passenger terminal of Salgado Filho Airport, in Porto Alegre, was returned to the public by CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul — and its architecture became part of the design of each project. In the 2026 edition, which celebrates 35 years of the show in the state, curves reminiscent of airplane fuselages, period display cases, and the affective memories of those who boarded and disembarked there run through the entire route.

The starting point of the circuit is itself a symbol of this relationship between present and past. In Il Mago Dei Colori, by Karen Berta Arquitetura and Mari Fogliato Studio de Arquitetura, the reception living room draws directly from the panel A Conquista do Espaço, by Aldo Locatelli — a historical work preserved in the lobby of the former terminal itself. The architects propose a contemporary reinterpretation of the atmosphere that may have inspired the artist, and the color palette of the project dialogues directly with the colors of the panel, creating a visual bridge between art and architecture. More than a tribute, the space transforms memory, identity, and legacy into experience — the motto that, in one way or another, echoes throughout the rest of the show.

If there is a project that takes on the role of the building in the show's narrative head-on, it is Saguão - Viagem Gastronômica, by VER Arquitetura e Design. Bringing together a bar, restaurant, and restrooms, the project is a reinterpretation of the history of the former Salgado Filho Airport and of the golden age of aviation in southern Brazil. The architects recovered original elements of the building and combined curves inspired by aircraft with period materials, building an atmosphere that highlights memory, elegance, and permanence — reinforced by lighting solutions that bring past and contemporaneity together in a single space.
Karen Feldman Arquitetos Associados - A casa bem vivida Electrolux. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)
In other projects, the dialogue with the building appears in a less explicit but equally deliberate way — in the decision to keep what was already there. In Casa Bem Vivida Electrolux, by Karen Feldman Arquitetos Associados, contemporary technological solutions coexist, side by side, with preserved elements of the original building, uniting innovation and memory in a single space dedicated to togetherness.
Liz e Edina Interiores e Sheila Magnani Arquitetura e Interiores - O Presente Abraça a Memória. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)
In The Present Embraces Memory, signed by Liz e Edina Interiores and Sheila Magnani Arquitetura e Interiores, this idea becomes almost a manifesto: the architects start from the premise that true innovation is born from respect for what already exists. Preserved and resignified elements share space with current solutions, and the appreciation of biophilia and the reuse of materials reinforce a way of living that combines sophistication, sustainability, and affection.
HVM Arquitetura - Casa 7200. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)
There is also a third movement in the exhibition: using the very concept of the passage of time — so present in the history of an airport — as the guiding thread of the project. In CASA 7200, by HVM Arquitetura, the premise is direct: a house is not built all at once, but over a lifetime, and time leaves traces that give meaning to spaces. Display cabinets, shelves, and artworks become supports for stories under construction — architecture, here, yields the leading role to the life it shelters.
Francéli Ferreira Arquitetura - Coworking Só Escritório. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)
The same logic appears in the Coworking SÓ Escritório, by Francéli Ferreira Arquitetura, which translates the new ways of working and connecting within projects that were, decades ago, the stage for movement and transit — now reconverted into a space for permanence, collaboration, and encounter.
