5 places to enjoy the good architecture of São Paulo
São Paulo is known as the city that welcomes everyone. Every day, we see people coming and going, of different ethnicities, genders, colors and styles. It is a spectacle for those who live there and those who visit. Perhaps it is the magic of the metropolis or a unique characteristic of the city that makes São Paulo so special. And thanks to this cultural mix and miscegenation, the capital is also a great architectural destination, as striking styles permeate the neighborhoods and streets, merging into a beautiful mosaic of structures, arabesques, lines, curves and materials.

Among the most common, we find the neocolonial , as in the USP Law School, the modernist with curved lines as in the Copan building and the contemporary , with many geometric shapes in a completely asymmetrical and non-linear way as we see in the SESC Pompeia building.

Patricia Anastassiadis, responsible for the Alma da Casa space at CASACOR São Paulo, highlighted Lina Bo Bardi's Glass House as an architectural landmark in the city. Open to the public since 2006, the building has become an icon of modern Brazilian architecture and a must-see for architects and architecture lovers in general. The house was the first project built by Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi, in 1951.

A symbol of the progressive era, the Altino Arantes Building - a name it received in the 1980s and still maintains today - known as the Banespa Building, was built in 1939 and is located in the heart of the city. The inspiration for its architecture came from the famous Empire State Building in New York. At 161.22 meters high, with 35 floors, 14 elevators, 900 steps and 1,119 windows, it was considered the largest reinforced concrete building in the world in the 1940s.

"Marked by the transparency of its fabrics and the lightness of its structures, built in a country and city that are not its origin, but which, due to its design consistency, manages to identify with the place and stand out as one of the city's icons", explains Patricia about her choice.

The building was designed by architects Álvaro Vital Brazil and Adhemar Marinho and was inaugurated in 1938. A pioneer in mixed use - combining residential and commercial units in the same tower - it has 11 floors and 10,000 m² of built area, housing 103 offices, simple and duplex apartments and a restaurant on its terrace.

Marilia Pellegrini designed the Essential Kitchen at CASACOR São Paulo 2016 and chose the Church of São Bonifácio as the city's architectural landmark. "The scale of the church is very interesting, as it gives the site a breath of fresh air without disturbing the surroundings. The professional elevated the building, transforming the lower part into a kind of square. The project's connection with the city is very well done," explains Marília.

Located in Vila Mariana, the church designed by architect Hans Broos draws attention because it looks like a suspended box that levitates and floats 4.5 meters above the ground. The building stands out above the keyboards of the neighborhood house, is marked by Paulista Brutalism and brings to mind the construction style used at MASP. "What is curious is that it is a little-known work and a beautiful example of our modernist architecture," adds Marília.

The original building was essentially preserved as it was found, including the marks of the old scaffolding and those of previous occupations and interventions. All the interventions proposed by the project were juxtaposed and made evident. The Pinacoteca has a very large historical burden and is considered one of the 25 best museums in the world.
