One common thread stands out among the projects at CASACOR Bahia 2026: four architects chose to transform memories of their grandparents into sources of inspiration. The result speaks directly to the theme of the 32nd edition of the Bahia show, Mind and Heart. On one side, technique and function. On the other, memory and belonging. In celebration of Grandparents' Day, we gathered the four projects that address this relationship in unique ways, each with its own family story.

Legacy that Dwells, by Mally Requião

In the living room designed by Mally Requião, the tribute to the architect's grandfather runs through nearly every choice in the project. One wall of Legacy that Dwells brings together family photographs and personal objects, including a cane and a pair of old shoes next to a porcelain display case.

"The project is born from a very genuine desire to talk about what remains within us: the memories, the affections and the stories that help build who we are," says Mally. For the architect, the home works as a place of memory and personal expression, not as a decorative reproduction of a style.

Grandma Malú's Corner, by Keu Batista and Paulo Figueira Interiores

Keu Batista and Paulo Figueira named their project after a real grandmother, Grandma Malú's Corner. The space combines laundry room and sewing atelier in a single room, bringing together two domestic routines historically linked to the manual work of the women of the family.

Colorful fabrics and threads, hung as a lamp over the counter, share the space with a sewing machine, work tools and clothes repurposed into new pieces. The project also reserves a corner for the care of pets, treating the pet as part of the household routine. The proposal suggests that simple tasks like washing and sewing also carry history.

Living Gaia, by Sílvia Coelho

In Sílvia Coelho's debut at CASACOR Bahia, Living Gaiapart of the memory of Dalcy, the architect's maternal grandmother. "My grandmother was always a woman ahead of her time, strong, authentic and in charge of her own choices," says Sílvia. She describes the project as a tribute to her grandmother's journey and, at the same time, a tribute to the women who came before her.

The name of the space refers to Gaia, a figure of Greek mythology associated with the origin of life, and appears in vivid colors and natural textures that move away from the neutrality common to many contemporary projects. One of the highlights is a corner dedicated to craftsmanship, with crochet flowers made by the architect's mother, which extends the tribute to yet another generation of the family.

Kitchen and Dining, by Hugo Ribeiro

Hugo Ribeiro starts from the Brazilian aesthetic of the 1970s to recreate, in the Kitchen and Dining, the atmosphere of the farm kitchens that marked the family gatherings of his childhood. Strong colors and a wide combination of materials form the foundation of the project, which avoids a literal copy of the period and seeks a more sophisticated interpretation.

Kitchen and dining connect without rigid boundaries between the two projects, highlighting the gathering and the act of cooking. Equipment and technology appear incorporated into the cabinetry in a discreet way, without interrupting the emotional reading of the project. More than a demonstration of technique, the space speaks about togetherness and about what remains between generations.
