The city of São Paulo is the first city in the world to enter into a strategic partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and joins an extensive network of partners whose mission is to build an economy that is regenerative and restorative from the ground up. “This partnership allows us to will allow us to promote circular economy projects and programs in a systematic way, will contribute to the dissemination of this concept not only in Brazil, but also in South America, and will complement all ongoing efforts to strengthen our economy and reduce social inequalities”, said

Ellen MacArthur Foundation has already been collaborating with São Paulo, such as the one that resulted in the
approval of the municipal law for the gradual elimination of problematic and single-use plastics . In 2019, the capital of São Paulo was chosen by the Foundation as one of the emblematic cities of
the Foundation's Food Initiative , which aims to create a circular economy for food in a healthy and regenerative way. Now, the plan is to bring together several agencies and municipal authorities to build a robust circular economy approach that promotes city growth.

As the largest decoration and design exhibition in the Americas,
CASACOR is always seeking to improve its own circular economy practices, especially when it comes to giving a noble and appropriate destination to the waste produced. "We treat our waste as technical and biological nutrients that must be be reused to the maximum. Thus,
our landfill diversion rate exceeds 99% ", explains Darlan Firmato, architect and sustainability manager at
CASACOR São Paulo .
All organic matter from food and gardens goes to compost . "In
2019 alone, 12 tons of fertilizer were distributed to the public and landscapers, contributing to soil restoration throughout the city. All wood not used in construction was used as biomass. , generating energy for industrial furnaces", lists Darlan. Technical waste is also reused to the maximum extent. "
We estimate that 99% of furniture, frames, lamps, carpets and decorative accessories in general are kept, reused or redistributed by architects and suppliers in other works, exhibitions and sales or even donated, ensuring circularity in a noble and efficient way", adds the architect. Metals and glass that cannot be maintained are sent for remanufacturing and Styrofoam is sent to the
Santa Luzia industry , where it is transformed into skirting boards and frames, returning to the market. "We only send for recycling waste that cannot be used for noble purposes and will serve as inputs for other products such as: packaging and plastics, rubble (construction aggregates) and plaster (bricks and refractories)", concludes Darlan.
