CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul says goodbye on Sunday, October 4, but there is still time to walk through the showcase circuit at the former passenger terminal of Salgado Filho Airport in Porto Alegre. In the year it celebrates 35 years, the showcase brings together 35 projects distributed across corridors, halls and spaces that preserve original elements of the building, in an edition marked by trends, heritage, art, technology and new ways of living. Alongside the interiors, the circuit features gastronomy, music, shops and content spaces. Below, an overview of what is worth visiting in these final days!

The terminal as a starting point

Built in 1953 and closed since 2019, the former terminal was returned to the public by CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul in 2025. In this second edition held there, its architecture, works and memory are more directly woven into the showcase content: curves reminiscent of an aircraft fuselage, period display cases and the affectionate memories of those who boarded and disembarked there run throughout the route. Architect Aclaene de Mello is part of the curatorial team responsible for the masterplan and leads the technical curation for the seventh consecutive edition, articulating projects, installations and gathering areas and organizing circulation without erasing the characteristics of the existing building.

The starting point of the circuit is a symbol of this relationship between present and past. In the hall is the panel A Conquista do Espaço, over 20 m wide, conceived by Aldo Locatelli, with the participation of Emílio Sessa and Attílio Pisoni. The work gives rise to the reception living room. In Il Mago Dei Colori, Karen Berta Arquitetura and Mari Fogliato Studio de Arquitetura imagine what Locatelli's room would be like if the artist were alive today, drawing on colors, textures and references from his work. The palette of the project dialogues with the colors of the panel, creating a visual bridge between art and architecture, and brings his trajectory closer to issues such as Italian origin, immigration and memory.

Mind and Heart, in many languages

Gabriela Angonese Arquitetura - Ode ao Delírio Maximalista. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)

Under the theme Mind and Heart, architects, designers, landscapers and artists draw from distinct repertoires, but allow issues common to contemporary architecture to emerge. Memory and technology coexist, natural materials meet digital resources and the home takes on new relationships with seclusion, individual expression, work, gathering and affection. The theme does not dictate a single language: there are more restrained projects and others that embrace color, patterns and maximalism.

Bruna Marcon Arquitetura - Private Universe. CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026 project.

Bruna Marcon Arquitetura - Universo Particular. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)

In Universo Particular, Bruna Marcon creates a retreat in which stone, wood, fire, water and light are used to discuss identity, warmth and the feeling of being at home. Ode ao Delírio Maximalista, by Gabriela Angonese Arquitetura, follows another path and embraces excess, overlap, and freedom of composition as a language. The Casa Bem Vivida Electrolux, by Karen Feldman, looks at the kitchen and the living areas through the lens of changes in domestic routines, while the Girl's Bedroom, by Aclaene de Mello Arquitetura, works with color and different uses within a room designed to follow the daily life of a 12-year-old girl.

A cast with many accents

The 2026 edition stands out for its renewed cast, with new names and professionals coming from different cities in Rio Grande do Sul. There are architects born in the countryside who built their careers in Porto Alegre, others who spent time in Milan, Madrid, London, or Toronto, and some who came to design through scenography, visual arts, or a family carpentry workshop. These experiences shaped distinct repertoires and, consequently, different ways of thinking about and building spaces.

The countryside, for example, does not appear only as a distant origin. Gabriela Angonese has run her office in Serra Gaúcha for 15 years, where she developed a trajectory tied to a personal interpretation of classic references, which takes shape in the showcase in Ode ao Delírio Maximalista. Renata Costa, a graduate of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria and a master's degree holder in Acoustics, maintains her office in Torres, on the Rio Grande do Sul coast, while dividing her work between the region and Porto Alegre, and it is from this path that the Lavanderia e Espaço Pet Refúgio emerges. Liana Lamare has worked for more than two decades between Pelotas and Porto Alegre, and Pâmela Santanna, trained in Santa Maria, now oversees projects in different states and countries. In common, these stories challenge an idea still quite present in the market: that a consolidated career in architecture must necessarily have the capital as its permanent center.

Other names expanded their repertoire beyond borders. Humberto Machado, of HVM Arquitetura, adds to his degree at PUCRS a stint at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Mariana Fogliato built part of her repertoire in London and Milan. At Poema Arquitetura, Ana Paula Mielke and Josué Michels had academic experiences in Canada and England before consolidating the office in Brazil, and Francéli Ferreira took her training to Milan after studies related to environmental comfort.

Art, technology, and 35 years of history

Davi dos Anjos e Luciano R. Mota - Galeria de Arte. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)

Art is one of the fastest-growing areas at CASACOR RS 2026: the space dedicated to exhibitions and installations expands from approximately 200 sq m in 2025 to around 300 sq m. The CASACOR Art Gallery, designed by Davi dos Anjos and Luciano Mota, occupies an exclusive 290 sq m space and brings together 13 artists from Brazil, Italy and Japan, with paintings, sculptures, photographs, performances and multimedia installations. The curatorship is by Davi dos Anjos, with consulting by André Venzon and collaboration from Italian critic Andrea Nikos Cristallo.

Viviane Possa and Humberto Machado - Jardim de Dentro. CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026 project.

Artistic production also spreads across other points of the circuit. In Jardim De Dentro, Viviane Possa and Humberto Machado bring landscaping and art together in a path that hosts Matéria do Tempo, an audiovisual installation by artist Nelson Azevedo built with images and sounds related to memory and affection. Artifício – Design Week POA explores the encounter between art, design and matter, combining wood, stone, metal, glass, fibers and light with waste from the decoration and construction industries. The edition also features an unprecedented work by Paraná-based artist Lenzi, developed especially for CASACOR RS based on the theme Mind and Heart.

Carlos Porto - Immersive Lounge. CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026 project.

Carlos Porto - Lounge Imersivo. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)

Technology appears at different scales. In the Immersive Lounge, Carlos Porto occupies 120 sq m with 360-degree projections, original soundtrack, light, image, sound and movement, transforming the projects into an immersive installation. The Kitchen of the Future brings the discussion into the home and addresses technological transformations connected to one of the projects that have most changed function over the past decades.

Sustainability: GBC Life reaches interiors

For the first time, the new version of GBC Life was applied to interior projects at CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul. The certification recognized six projects of different uses: a children's bedroom, a kitchen, a living and dining area, a loft, a café and a store. The process verifies, through documentation, whether the solutions proposed by the professionals were effectively executed. Among the criteria analyzed are air quality, lighting, paint selection, origin and use of materials, biophilia, reuse and disposal of waste generated during assembly.

Miint&Co - Ótica e LabStore CASACOR. Projeto da CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul 2026. (Cristiano Bauce/CASACOR)

Two projects help translate these criteria into practice. In the Kitchen of the Future, by Carlos Porto, conventional cabinetry was replaced by aluminum structures, a strong, durable and recyclable material. The 40 sq m projects also feature a central glass island and a functional vegetable garden, bringing food cultivation closer to the domestic routine. In the LabStore, designed by Miint&Co, the certification dialogues with the application of neuroarchitecture and the choice of reused or lower-impact materials. The 350 sq m space uses carpets produced with recycled PET, natural coverings and structural cardboard reused in the ceiling and in the displays, and light, sounds, colors, paths and textures were planned considering their effects on the well-being, memory and behavior of visitors.

The certified projects are: Girl's Bedroom (Aclaene de Mello Arquitetura); Kitchen of the Future (Carlos Porto); The Well-Lived Electrolux Home (Karen Feldman Arquitetos Associados); Bella Decor Album (Poema Arquitetura); Fibraplac Café (KV Arquitetura); and CASACOR LabStore (Miint&Co).

Where to eat and drink

The show brings together four gastronomic operations, each with its own identity and menu. Chocólatras runs the Fibraplac Café; Crëam debuts at the show leading the Gelateria; Grupo DMZ takes on the POA 11/29 Bar; and MuleBule Gastronomia leads the Saguão Restaurante. All of them recover, in some way, the atmosphere of the old terminal.

Fibraplac Café. Chocólatras leads the 250 sqm project designed by Kátia Vinciprova, of KV Arquitetura. The menu brings together classic and specialty coffees, hot chocolates, pastries, savory snacks, combos, and cold beverages. In its architecture, the project starts from the meeting of Café Imperial and Azul Infinito, two launches presented by Fibraplac in 2026, and brown appears in the structural elements and furniture, creating a base associated with solidity and classic coffees.

Gelateria. Crëam takes part in CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul for the first time with a selection developed for the 2026 edition. The artisanal gelateria created flavors that bring together recipes and ingredients linked to the state's affective memories, such as grape cuca and pine nut and bergamot praline. The operation occupies a 75 sqm project signed by Studio Bruni Schneider Arquitetura e Interiores, by Bruniele Schneider, Natali Falavigna, and Douglas Giasson. Instead of the codes usually associated with Italian gelaterias, the project seeks references in New York's cosmopolitan atmosphere and contemporary fashion, with curved shapes, intense colors, textures, and overlays.

POA 11/29 Bar.The connection to the former terminal begins with the name: the numbers correspond to the headings of the main runway of Salgado Filho Airport. The DMZ Group menu brings together classic cocktails and seven signature drinks. In Cambona, caramelized banana rum meets cold brew, bergamot cordial and bracatinga honey; the Kinkan Sour combines house bourbon, grilled kinkan syrup and rangpur lime; and the selection is completed by Cravo & Fogo, with amburana cachaça, native honey, rangpur lime and oak smoking, the Earl Grey G&T, with bergamot cordial, and the Spritz LagarteandoCello, served with Salton sparkling wine. The bar is part of the Gastronomic Journey Lounge, a 350 m² space created by VER Arquitetura Design, which recovers aviation references in metallic structures, curved lines, signature pieces and warm, focused lighting. The view of the runway and the movement of the planes complete the happy hour scene.

Restaurant Lounge. With a menu by chefs Caroline Moretti and Priscila Oliveira, MuleBule Gastronomia's operation revisits part of the glamour of 1980s and 1990s gastronomy, revisiting restaurants, dishes and flavors that remain in the memory of Porto Alegre's residents. The references take on a contemporary reading, with regional ingredients, small producers and current techniques, without turning the menu into a nostalgic reproduction. Among the main dishes are Filé à Moscovita, Scaloppi ai cinque funghi, with a five-mushroom sauce, and Salmon Wellington. With a view of the current Salgado Filho International Airport runway, the restaurant incorporates takeoffs and landings into dinner.

Shops, content and even a mini-city for the children

The commercial, content and relationship projects expand the possibilities for using the terminal throughout the day. The LabStore brings architecture, design, fashion, art and behavior closer together, while a multi-brand store curated by Mint rounds out the commercial occupation. The SÓ Escritório Coworking hosts podcasts, interviews, lectures, debates and live broadcasts, along with coworking and a corporate arena.

For the children, the play area is organized as a mini-city, with a workshop, supermarket, café and stage on a child-sized scale, designed to stimulate imagination, autonomy and interaction without the use of screens.

Schedule your visit

The circuit demands time: between the interiors, the exhibitions, the set table and the shops, the visit easily extends. "Architecture remains the essence of the show, but it now dialogues even more intensely with art, gastronomy, music, experiences and encounters. Our goal is for each visitor to find a reason to stay, return and create memories inside CASACOR," says Karina Capaverde, director of CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul.

Tickets cost from R$ 48 (half-price) to R$ 96 (full price) and can be purchased online, through the official CASACOR app or in person, at the show's box office. Get yours here: appcasacor.com.br/events/rio-grandedo-sul
