Design studio Nendo , in partnership with hardware manufacturer Sugita Ace, has created a versatile emergency kit that’s smaller than an umbrella. The team, led by Oki Sato, set out to redesign the conventional kit to make it more practical, including the minimum necessary to protect people at risk during an earthquake or other disaster.

The result is the Minim+Aid , a 5 cm wide, waterproof and floating tube. Inside the device are a whistle, radio, raincoat, flashlight, drinking water and a first aid kit. Because it is thin, it can be placed over the shoulder, freeing the user's hands and is also very easy to store
