Designed by the design duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec , Island is a bench constructed from a common thread, which determines the use of wide, long boards as one of the simplest elements of public furniture .

The planks are also the meaning of a deck , a platform. Island is based on this type of language: a meeting between a platform, a deck and the notion of public furniture.The starting point is the furniture, the benches and the public park where the widest mix of people can be found: children, adults, people concentrating, people doing nothing.
The Island bench has the ability to create a park around itself , bringing life to lost environments.

“Furniture needs to provoke very intuitivebehaviors : sometimes bodies need shelter, they need a sense of privacy and protection, and sometimes bodies just want to express a kind of welcome , of openness,” say the design duo.
