Campana Brothers Create Aquarium-Inspired Cabinet

Brothers Humberto and Fernando Campana were inspired by aquariums to create an exotic cabinet. The piece was presented by Spanish brand BD Barcelona Design at the 2016 Milan Furniture Fair .

The duo worked with opposing aspects of the materials: wood with its physical presence, robustness and warm, welcoming temperature, and translucent glass, light and cool. The result was a harmonious piece with irregular bubble-shaped cutouts filled with colored glass. The shelves are also transparent to allow light to enter. It is possible to see the inside of the cabinet, which is available in only two colors. The piece is on display alongside new pieces from other designers from the brand, including Jaime Hayón, Oscar Tusquets and Färg & Blanche, at Milan Design Week 2016. Glass furniture was already a big trend at the fair in 2015, when designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Tokujin Yoshioka, and Barber and Osgerby launched transparent pieces.
