Valerio Olgiati designs new Céline store in Miami

Gucci, Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton have gained a beautiful neighbor in Miami. Better late than never, French brand Céline joins this team of top brands in the trendy Design District, where several international luxury fashion and design brands are gathered. The new store was designed by award-winning Swiss architect Valerio Olgiati - who is not only the chief architect of his office in Zurich, but also a professor at Harvard.

With a cool, minimalist vibe, the new store is completely covered—literally—in Brazilian white Pinta Verde marble. The façade, floor, walls, and even the ceiling follow this pattern. The shades of blue and the pyramid shapes were designed to create a contemplative space where an inner universe can be imagined. This point becomes clear when you look at the stairs and the almost mystical connection that exists between floors through the large pyramid that connects the two spaces.

Large chunks of marble are used as displays for the brand’s stunning handbags and shoes, while the clothes hang on simple copper racks. The decor touches are all in grey, creating a beautiful contrast with the blue of the marble. They can be found in the cushions and suede rugs, as well as in the curtains in the fitting rooms.

This isn’t the first time Olgiati has chosen a single element as the basis for a project. In 2012, he designed an agricultural school in eastern Switzerland using only concrete for the façade. Now, several years later, it was marble’s turn to inspire the great architect to create a clean space suitable for the acclaimed Céline’s pieces.
