When the Bauhaus art school was founded by architect Walter Gropius in 1919, few could envision a style of building other than the classical one. So imagine the level of avant-garde when they introduced simplified volumes, geometric shapes, straight lines. Not to mention the prefabricated materials -manufactured and a vision that interconnected architecture and arts, even those considered less important. A brief immersion in this legacy is the proposal of the Bauhaus 100 Years Lounge. The 45 m² space was developed by Santa Catarina architect Tufi Mousse in his first participation in
CASACOR São Paulo 2019 . It brings a contemporary reading of the modernist precepts proposed by the German school. Simplicity is demonstrated in the choice of materials, colors and straight lines and curves with a clean outline. After all, one of the precepts of the Bauhaus was to abolish ornament and decoration that resembled , for them, the past. Another important feature portrayed is the design of a space without walls.
The pieces - intentionally few - that make up the space synthesize the idea of functionality. Without neglecting to work with proportions that bring comfort. As you walk through the lounge, it is possible to identify these and other details.
Mies van der Rohe was a professor and director of the Bauhaus. He was the one who came up with one of the most repeated phrases in the world of architecture and which sums up the worldview of the German school: “Less is more.”
Of course, this maxim could not be left out of Tufi Mousse’s project, which he recorded on one of the main walls. “Today’s global design and architecture are strongly influenced by the disruptive teachings of the centuries-old German Bauhaus School,” explains Tufi.
