"Os Sertões" inspires bookstore designed by Marina Salomão at CASACOR SP

The Sertões do Saber bookstore project at CASACOR São Paulo 2024 , designed by architect Marina Salomão , marks a harmonious encounter between literature and architecture. Inspired by the book "Os Sertões", by Euclides da Cunha, the architect explains that "each space was conceived as a visual and tactile narrative, reflecting the contrasts and dualities found in the backlands based on the nature and conflicts portrayed in the book and explored in the colors, structures and materials used in harmony".

From the entrance with glass metal doors to the interior and hidden storage, the project is carefully planned to provide an immersive experience for visitors. The arrangement of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, organic and custom-made furniture, and small reading nooks create a warm and inviting atmosphere, encouraging disconnection from the present in search of knowledge.

The materials chosen, such as sisal from the backlands of Bahia and wood in different tones and textures, evoke the ancestry and tradition of the backlands. The color palette in soft tones comes to life with the addition of burgundy, creating a cozy atmosphere combined with the handmade sisal and leather coverings, which refer to the traditional buildings of the region.

Assim, ganham protagonismo elementos das construções nordestinas, que espelham as condições climáticas regionais e utilizam matérias-primas como barro, fibras e madeiras. A palha reveste a parte inferior e as colunas das estantes, que expõem publicações dos mais diversos gêneros; a poltrona de couro caramelo alude à vestimenta sertaneja; e o sofá curvo off-white confere aconchego, além de contribuir para o cenário com uma dose de modernidade.
