Caco Borges' garage at CASACOR Rio combines design and surfing

With the idea of creating an environment for a family whose father and son are surfers, Caco put several boards on display and even installed a bicycle rack on the roof of the car. “It’s a very modern model and suitable for walking on the sand”, he reveals. For him, the inspiration for the 50 m² module, assembled in a metal structure dyed black and a lot of glass (with thermal insulation), came from King's Cross train station, in London. “I kept the ceilings high and the ceiling glass. The style is that of a more sophisticated warehouse”, he adds. Among the decoration pieces, Caco favored more neutral tones, with a sofa and coffee table in raw colors (Florense) and a natural fiber rug (By Kamy). The landscaping has rustic clay pots with cactus and, in the background, the texture of the stone wall – original to the land – is visible. The highlight is the paintings by Hungarian artist Victor Vazarely, an exponent of Op-Art, who in 1972 redesigned the Renault logo. “The paintings are beautiful and pay homage to the car brand. I also placed a mirror on the wall opposite the living room, to reflect the elegant lines of the Duster Oroch”, he says. The innovative pickup truck is perfect for those looking for freedom and don't give up large internal space and versatility, adapting to the lifestyle of this surfing family. An interesting detail of the project is the lighting, which highlights the industrial style of the space, and was fixed to the exposed metal beams. Caco chose to use powerful spots there, made with car headlights - designed by architect Maurício Arruda for Renault - and developed together with light designer Fernanda Vasconcellos. “The car here has a prominent position, as a design piece that the owner of the house enjoys, appreciates and likes to live side by side, without ceremony. The garage thus gains visibility and becomes part of the family’s routine, as a pleasant meeting point”, he reinforces.
