Coral announces the 2027 Color of the Year: meet Natural Stone

Natural Stone is the 2027 Color of the Year from Coral. Announced this Wednesday (9), the shade is a soft, grayish light green, inspired by nuances found in sage leaves and chosen to translate a growing desire for calm, presence, and reconnection inside and outside the home.

The definition is part of ColourFutures, a global study carried out for 23 years by AkzoNobel, Coral's manufacturer, to interpret behaviors, feelings, and cultural movements that are expected to influence the coming years.

The study is led by Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel's Global Aesthetic Center, and her team, which brings together trend analysts, architects, designers, colorists, and journalists from different regions of the world. The group tracks social, economic, cultural, and design movements to identify behaviors that may influence the way people live and relate to spaces. In Brazil, ColourFutures is represented by designers and visual artists Adriana Pedrosa and Carlota Gasparian, longtime partners of the study.

In 2027, the reading points to a reaction to the excess of stimuli, constant noise, and the exhaustion of digital life. As the sense of a lack of true human connections grows, faced with so much information and so many things to manage, there arises a desire to slow down and open space for more essential experiences.

For Heleen van Gent, the excess of stimuli and the feeling of overload have reinforced the need for more uncomplicated and serene projects. "The idea is to recover the connection with what is most human and essential in our lives," she states. According to her, the Natural Stone color translates this feeling by bringing a soft and versatile green, capable of subtly transforming according to the incidence of light.

The Natural Stone shade moves between different references from the natural world. While it comes close to the green of vegetation, its grayish layer refers to the discreet tones of stones and crystals. This connection between the plant and mineral realms helps build its visual versatility and the sense of serenity associated with the color.

In different cultures, greens have historically been linked to ideas of growth, life, restoration, and renewal. In Natural Stone, this symbolism translates into a soft and balanced shade: a slightly grayish mint green, luminous and delicate, which brings freshness to projects and contributes to welcoming compositions.

There is also a physical dimension related to the sense of comfort. By occupying the central region of the visible spectrum, green tends to be perceived by the eyes with less effort than other colors. In a routine marked by screens, images, and information in sequence, this characteristic reinforces the idea of visual rest.

In tune with the CASACOR 2026 theme: Mind and Heart

The scenario that guided the choice of Natural Stone finds several points of contact with Mind and Heart, the theme of CASACOR 2026. Both movements stem from a similar reflection: faced with a reality marked by overload, there is a growing need to return to the essential and rethink the way we inhabit spaces and conduct our own routine.

This excess is not limited to the digital universe. It can also manifest itself in the accumulation of objects, stimuli, and information inside the home, contributing to a continuous sense of fatigue and distraction.

As a counterpoint, there emerges the desire to simplify, deepen human connections, and recover the value of small everyday experiences. The prosaic takes on an important place: being present, observing one's surroundings, and finding space for enchantment become possible dimensions of well-being.

It is within this context that Coral's concept of Elemental Living emerges, associated with a refuge of simplicity, warmth, and lightness, in which each moment can be experienced with greater presence and meaning. The home comes to be understood not only as a physical space, but also as a feeling and idea — a place capable of offering a breath of fresh air amid the excess.

How to use Natural Stone in décor

In interiors, Natural Stone can act as a point of balance, bringing the home closer to nature in a subtle way. Its presence does not require a specific aesthetic nor does it turn the projects into a literal interpretation of the natural world, which broadens its possibilities of use.

The tone can work as a base for other colors to take center stage. Earth tones, blues, pinks, and neutrals are among the suggested combinations and reinforce the flexible character of the green, which adapts to softer or more contrasting compositions without competing for attention with the other elements.

The same versatility allows Natural Stone to occupy larger surfaces and envelop the projects completely. In this case, it ceases to be merely a backdrop and begins to lead the atmosphere of the space, preserving a sense of warmth, luminosity, and balance.

Color Palettes 2027

Natural Stone is part of three palettes developed by Coral for 2027. Altogether, there are 29 colors that stem from the same desire for reconnection, but explore distinct responses to contemporary life. In common, the three palettes also share an off-white, Crystal Piece, which transitions between the different combinations.

Being Close Palette

The Being Close Palette brings together warm, earthy tones inspired by the natural landscape, combined with more radiant colors. Earthy reds, purples, lilacs, and ochre yellow help build a composition of greater intensity and presence. The selection also draws close to the universe of the handmade and the appreciation of craftsmanship, with textures, natural materials, and pieces that highlight manual processes, reinforcing the feeling of closeness and connection.

Letting Go Palette

More discreet, the Letting Go Palette relies on soft, desaturated tones. Browns, blues, and greens appear in restrained versions, building a visual sensation associated with lightness and purification. References to the sea and the skyare also part of the composition, with nuances such as hydrangea blue. The colors preserve luminosity and work as an alternative to traditional neutrals, without losing personality.

Call to Self Palette

The Call to Self Palette follows a more expressive direction. Pinks, lilacs, and ochre yellows add pops of color to projects and help create compositions with greater vitality. The proposal is tied to the desire to feel again, using color as a resource to awaken emotions and renew the relationship with spaces. Instead of excess, intensity appears in a punctual and conscious way, as part of a more sensitive decor connected to the experience of living.
