Architect Léo Shehtman brought to the exhibition a train carriage from 1945, which was renovated and transformed into a lounge inspired by the Art Deco aesthetic!

Architect Léo Shehtman, in each CASA COR he participates in, always tries to innovate and be bold, based on new trends and movements in design and architecture. In this edition, the professional brought to the exhibition a lounge inside a train carriage, the Expresso Déco . 
"At a time when there is so much talk about recovering, preserving and reinventing, we decided to renovate a train carriage and show how we can give new uses to what many consider as 'trash' or 'disposable'. Show how 'beautiful' can emerge from From any place and any situation, this project tries to show that it is possible to reuse structures and have comfort and practicality in small spaces", explains Shehtman. 
The train carriage is from 1945, from the old Sorocabana Railway. The EF-401 car was used as a luggage carrier, both in the transport of passengers and services, until the 1980s. “This vehicle was one of the first built with 100% national technology”, explains Paulo Sérgio Vieira Filho, President of Associação Movimento of Railway Preservation of the Sorocabana Section (MPF – Sorocabana), the entity responsible for the vehicle. 
For this project, which has a total area of 40 m², the architect was inspired by Art Deco aesthetics, in addition to relying on the straight and spherical lines of geometric figures and drawings from nature, which brings back the elegance of the past for the present. 
The environment that includes a living room, bathroom, a lunch room and kitchen prioritizes the integration between the rooms and the organization of the space in an optimized way. 
To implement the Art Deco concept, the professional proposes to design a large part of the furniture in an attempt to incorporate past and present as a way of representing his unique perspective on the future of interior decoration. 
Duratex's certified Oak wood panels bring the ideal of sustainability to the project, minimizing the environmental impact of wood extraction and at the same time accelerating the construction process. 
Lighting punctuates and highlights decorative items and has the mission of enhancing the architecture designed by the architect. To achieve this, the lighting project was specially developed by Allure Iluminação and features LED lamps from Brilla. 
The details of the carriage's internal production were also inspired by Art Deco, with the highlights being: the vintage French bar furniture, originally from the 1920s made in ebonized solid hardwood and rose-colored mirror and with “harlequin” pagination; the Italian metal floor lamp with Murano Mazzega shades, both from NN Antiques by Tadeu Nasser. And also the Hill House chair from 1904, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh provided by Began Antiquities. The brass and murano crystal sconces, the brass lampshade and the wall lamp with movable arm are from the antique dealer Juliana Benfatti. The Art Deco carpet was specially developed to integrate into the environment by By Kamy. 
The main highlight that catches the attention of visitors and is a selfie point is the external graffiti on the carriage, by the Vollume BR collective, which not only attracts attention to the space but also rescues a great element of the urban art and culture of the city of São Paulo. Paulo Paulo, the art of graffiti that is present in a large part of the city and constitutes an important form of artistic expression. “I will do the restoration with the greatest pleasure. It will be a joy to see that my office contributed to the conservation of Brazilian railway heritage”, concludes Léo Shehtman, highlighting that after CASA COR São Paulo 2016 the vehicle will be exhibited at Paula Souza Station, in the center of Sorocaba as part of the dynamic railway museum .
