Giant ballerina on display at Rockefeller Center in NY
Every year, the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in New York captures the attention of tourists and New Yorkers who pass by the square to enjoy the colors and lights. Now, it's time for art to take its place. More specifically, dance. Artist Jeff Koons created a giant balloon sculpture in the shape of a dancer and installed it in the same place where the Christmas tree stands.
The feat is piquing the curiosity of everyone who passes by. At almost fourteen meters high and four meters wide, the piece entitled " Seated Ballerina " is the artist's second statue of this kind. The first was presented at a Thanksgiving parade, promoted by Macy's . According to Koons, the ballerina was also installed to raise awareness for International Missing Children's Month. "My intention with the work is to communicate hope and optimism to everyone." The piece will be on display until June 2nd, so if you're in the Big Apple , you need to hurry!
