Vintage tropical: 210 m² apartment blends modernism, integration and vintage finds traduzido por: OPENROUTER

Organic lines, abundant natural light and the soul of Brazilian design set the tone of this apartment of 210 sqm in the heart of Jardim Botânico (RJ). Designed by architect João Panaggio, from Panaggio Arquitetura and part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup, the linear property underwent a complete renovation to accompany the new phase of life of its resident, a lawyer.

The starting point of the project was the concept of maximum integration, conceiving the projects as one large open space in which visual and functional barriers dissolve naturally. Transition areas took center stage and began to act as true galleries. In the redistribution of the floor plan, the kitchen left its original position to occupy a former bedroom/office integrated with the social area, while the intimate circulation was redesigned as a living space that houses the resident's private gym.

The new configuration gave rise to two spacious suites, a powder room camouflaged in a slatted panel, a laundry room and a generous social area that connects the living room, dining room and TV room.

The materiality builds unique atmospheres in each space, like small sensory boxes unified by the striking presence of Brazilian woods in dark tones — such as pau-ferro, sucupira, cumaru and walnut. In the social area, the original floor of cumaru long planks was preserved, while the peroba-do-campo parquet in the intimate area underwent restoration.

In the kitchen, the green and beige hydraulic tile dialogues with the warm cabinetry and the planter full of plants.

The result of a collaborative process between architect and client, the furniture curation designed a "vintage tropical" atmosphere. The collection brings together modernist icons, such as the Mole armchair and the Oscar chairs by Sergio Rodrigues, alongside the contemporary design of the Disforme table and the Block sofa by Estudiobola, and the Bernardo coffee table by Gustavo Bittencourt. One of the resident's great finds was the rare rosewood and brass sideboard signed by Scapinelli, unearthed in São Paulo.

In the living room facing the treetops, abundant light floods the scene and highlights pieces full of history, such as the orange dome floor lamp brought by the client from Barcelona, the Louis Poulsen pendant over the organic dining table, and the painting by Heitor dos Prazeres next to the bar.

In the intimate hall, the composition between the round pillar and the curved walls evokes the lyricism of Brazilian modernism with lightness. In the master suite, integrated with a workspace and the bathroom with green tiles, the project consolidates itself as a welcoming refuge, where the surprises of the original structure were converted into pure architecture of affection.
