Renovation of a 250 sqm apartment highlights the view of Guanabara Bay

Located in the São Francisco neighborhood, in Niterói (RJ), this apartment with a linear layout of 250 sqm underwent its first major transformation to meet the new dynamics of a couple and their two adult daughters. With a privileged view of Guanabara Bay, the intervention led by architect Bianca Sieberer (from the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup) focused primarily on the total reorganization of the social area, seeking to combine functionality, elegance and warmth in a continuous and fluid floor plan.

The integration between the living room and the balcony guided the deepest changes in the project. With the removal of the original window frames and the rigorous leveling of the floors, the projects merged into a large social space that accommodates dining, living, home theater and a reading corner. This barrier-free transition not only optimized internal circulation but also substantially increased the entry of natural light and framed the maritime landscape, bringing the bay scenery into the daily life of the home.

The composition of the interiors took the family's personal collection as its starting point, highlighting elements of emotional memory. The reading corner features a yellow canvas painted by the client's mother, combined with chairs sourced from antique shops, books inherited from the resident's father, an oriental rug and the iconic Mole armchair with ottoman, created by Sergio Rodrigues.

To dialogue with the existing pieces, the new furniture prioritized neutral tones and tactile textures, including the bouclé sofa from Suite Design and the Carioca dining chairs by Alexander Kasper, distributed in an elegant palette that combines sand, white and off-white with warm touches of terracotta and caramel.

In the finishes, the original flooring of the social area was replaced by porcelain tile with a Travertine pattern, which ensures visual uniformity. The custom cabinetry designed by the studio uses natural oak on the shelving unit, the rack, the shelves and the living room panels, while freijó wood brings warmth to the bedrooms. The painting of the walls consolidates the bright and luminous atmosphere of the apartment.

“The biggest challenge of this project was making a single living room accommodate different moments of daily life: a space to watch TV, work, host guests, read, and simply be. All of this without compromising the lightness and sense of spaciousness. In addition, the renovation took place while the residents were still living in the apartment, which required careful planning, a phased execution, and solutions that minimized the impact on the family's daily routine,” concludes architect Bianca Sieberer.
