Discover the apartment of architect Bernardo Gaudie-Ley, from Beta Arquitetura

Located in the Península condominium in Barra da Tijuca, the first apartment of architect Bernardo Gaudie-Ley, partner at Beta Arquitetura alongside Tânia Braida (and part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup), underwent a complete layout transformation to mark the beginning of his solo living. Acquired off-plan and with construction completed in six months, the 78 sq m property had its structure fully reconfigured to eliminate visual barriers and enhance the sense of space.

To create a continuous social area, the kitchen, the former balcony and the bedroom of the guest suite were incorporated into the living room, forming an integrated project that brings together lounge, TV, dining and kitchen areas, while the bathroom of the decommissioned suite now serves the master suite as a second independent bathroom.

This fluid integration directly meets the architect's routine, as he frequently hosts friends and family. In the living room, an island-style sofa divides the space between the TV room and the gathering area connected to the linear kitchen, where a large freijó woodwork structure conceals the appliances and the service area to maintain the clean aesthetic of the project.

An existing structural column at the center of the floor plan was embraced by the design and integrated into a masonry bench, and near the entrance, a custom-designed shelving unit accommodates books, travel objects and a bar nook with a built-in wine cellar. The design also takes full advantage of natural light and the condominium's scenery, orienting the projects toward the park, Marapendi Lagoon and Cidade das Artes, especially in the dining room, which now occupies the former balcony, leveled and enclosed with glass.

The decor combines the cozy style with references from Italian and Scandinavian design, starting from a neutral palette that highlights the combination of earthy tones, wine, navy blue and green. The color choice took as its starting point two Standard chairs by Jean Prouvé for Vitra, unfolding through the use of Verde Guatemala marble in the social area, Rosso Italiano in the powder room and Branco Paraná Matarazzo in the master suite. Visual continuity is completed with warm gray porcelain tile on the floor and Sand-toned textured paint on the walls.

In the main suite, the off-white bouclé upholstered headboard blends with the wall's texture, and freijó panels maintain the visual integration with the bathroom, preserving the view of the landscape.

The collection of furniture and art reflects the professional's emotional memory and repertoire, bringing together pieces acquired over the years and new finds. The living and dining areas feature design icons such as the Tulip table in pau-ferro wood (Eero Saarinen), the Vicky chairs (Bernardo Figueiredo), the Mini tea trolley and the Jardim table (Jader Almeida), the N armchair (Zanine Caldas), the Tião chair and the Magrini bench (Sérgio Rodrigues), as well as the Jangada armchair (Jean Gillon), pointed out by the architect as his favorite piece.

The artworks are placed throughout every room and reinforce this personal character, bringing together works by Guilherme Milward, Hércules Barsotti, Burle Marx and by his mother, the artist Ana Beatriz Grijó, alongside relics of sentimental value such as a sketch by Tarsila do Amaral, a silkscreen by Alfredo Volpi and an original sketch by Oscar Niemeyer from the period of Brasília's construction.
