When they acquired this duplex penthouse of 189 sqm still off-plan, in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, a couple in their thirties — he, a ship pilot; she, a visual artist — fulfilled the dream of their first own home alongside their two children.

To transform the space into a functional home full of identity, they invited architects Bernardo Gaudie-Ley and Tânia Braida, from the Beta Arquitetura firm and part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup. Since the partnership began before the keys were handed over, the team was able to carry out strategic interventions alongside the construction company, such as opening the office to the entrance hall on the lower floor and integrating the living room and the kitchen on the upper floor.

The layout of the home prioritized shared living on the top floor, which brings together the living room, dining room, kitchen with peninsula, gourmet area, and the terrace overlooking Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. To make the family's dream pool possible, the firm had to hire engineers to restructure the construction, which originally provided only 40 cm of depth.

Today, the outdoor area features a peroba-mica metal roof, side louvers, and planters within a landscaping project designed by the Horto Girassol firm, ensuring privacy from the neighboring buildings.

The interior architecture brings a neutral base of sand-toned porcelain tile, cumaru wood flooring in the private areas, and natural oak veneer joinery. Over this structure, the resident's passion for colors comes to life in brushstrokes of magenta, wine, terracotta, mustard yellow, and shades of green.

The furniture selection favors signature design, with highlights including the Mole armchair (by Sérgio Rodrigues) in a green tone and the Zeca armchair, by Zanine Caldas, in addition to pieces by Alexandre Kasper, Henrique Schreiber, Carolina Maluhy, and Bianca Barbato.

In the kitchen, the upper cabinets in mint-green lacquer and the lower ones in white paneling add a retro touch, while the powder room surprises with forest-themed wallpaper and an organic mirror by Thomas Graeff.

In the 5-year-old daughter's bedroom, the carmine-red and pink lacquered cabinetry features a retractable vanity counter, and the Ni pendant lamp by Yankatu results in a feminine, playful projects far removed from childish clichés.
