Cuban artist René Francisco holds his first exhibition in Brazil
Venceremos René Francisco was a Cuban artist who grew up under the socialist military regime, but who, even so, confronted the system and adopted an activist and teaching stance through his art, addressing the concept of fragmentation or social difference, presenting reflections on Cuban nationality on the verge of a new and important political chapter for the country. Ciudad-Vista-desde-Arriba The artist created the Galería DUPP, Desde una Pedagogia Pragmática in 1989, with the aim of promoting interaction between students and teachers.
The success of her work can be seen and discovered in her first exhibition in Brazil, called Venceremos , at Galeria Nara Roesler, which brings together drawings, paintings and assemblages. The exhibition opened its doors to the public today and will run until June 4, 2016. Lamer,comerybeber René Francisco was born in Holguín, Cuba, in 1960, and lives and works in Havana. He has won numerous international awards, including the UNESCO Prize (2000) and the Cuban National Prize for Visual Arts (2010), and his work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Central and South America, and Europe, as well as at the Venice Biennale (1999 and 2007), the 26th São Paulo Biennale (2004), the 2nd Salonica Biennale (2009), and the Havana Biennale (1997 and 2000).
