The Pinacoteca de São Paulo invites children and adults to see the museum in a completely different way with the exhibition "For children: experiences with art since 1968", on display in the Grande Galeria of Pina Contemporânea until October 18, 2026.

The result of an unprecedented collaboration between the São Paulo institution and Germany's Haus der Kunst München, the show brings together 11 works by Brazilian and international artists that transform childhood into a starting point for creative, sensory, and participatory experiences. Instead of just observing the works, the public is invited to interact, draw, build, explore, and imagine, making the visit a shared experience across different generations.
The exhibition's proposal starts from the idea that childhood is a way of experiencing the world. Therefore, the works don't treat children merely as visitors, but as active participants in the creation of meanings.

The tour brings together works produced from the late 1960s to the present day, valuing drawing, imagination, sensory investigation, and play as an artistic language. Installed at Pina Contemporânea, the space encourages interaction between children and adults, making the visiting experience go far beyond the traditional contemplation found in museums.
Much of the exhibition only comes to life with public participation. Right at the entrance, Mega Please Draw Freely (2025), by Ei Arakawa-Nash, transforms the gallery floor into a huge surface for drawings that modify the work over the months. Another highlight is Caixa de areia (2026), created especially for the Pinacoteca by Graziela Kunsch, projects intended for early childhood, filled with sand, funnels, sieves, play tables, and wooden structures that stimulate free exploration.

The show also brings together installations such as the modular blocks by Olafur Eliasson, which allow cities and shapes to be built collectively, as well as the textile sculpture by Ernesto Neto, where small groups enter to explore sounds and space in a collaborative way.
Beyond the playful aspect, the exhibition addresses important themes through imagination. In O Nome do Medo (2017), Rivane Neuenschwander transforms accounts of childhood fears into capes that can be worn by children, proposing new ways of dealing with feelings.

Goodness and Disaster (2025), by the Indonesian artist Agus Nur Amal PMTOH, uses toys and everyday objects to tell stories inspired by the tsunami that struck his community, showing how social and environmental issues can also be discussed through art. Works by Rachel Rose, Ana Mendieta, Harun Farocki, Yto Barrada, and the iconic installation Divisor (1968), by Lygia Pape, complete a journey that values creativity, experimentation, and the childlike gaze upon the world.

To enhance the experience, the exhibition features an activity notebook illustrated by Talita Hoffmann, which replaces the traditional catalog and can be purchased on the Pinacoteca's website. The material gathers information about the works and proposes activities to continue exploring the themes of the show even after the visit.

During weekends and school holiday periods, access to the exhibition takes place through tickets with scheduled times, ensuring greater comfort for the public.
