On April 8, the
Triennale opened a new
Museum of Italian Design in the country’s most artistic city, Milan. The permanent collection was selected from the 1,600 items in the Triennale Collection, and showcases iconic pieces by designers such as Ettore Sottsass and Gaetano Pesce.
The exhibition will focus on the history of modern Italian design from 1946 to 1981, aiming to recognize and honor the best design work while keeping alive the characteristics that define it as Italian.
The collection was arranged in chronological order, organized according to the context and history of the year in which it was produced. Many of the pieces had never been exhibited before, including photographic materials, advertising campaigns and original packaging.
In addition to recalling classic pieces, such as the
Superleggera chair by Gio Ponti, the museum is also an opportunity to expand the Triennale collection and revitalize the historic building in which it is located, the Palazzo dell'Arte.
