The rapprochement between the works of Ivan Serpa and Jorge Zalszupin was one of the good ideas of gallerist Thiago Gomide, from Bergamin & Gomide. “The intention of the exhibition was to expose the similarities between the industrial design of designer Zalszupin and the artistic practice of Sergipe, during the most prolific years of their careers, between the 1950s and 1970s”, explains Thiago Gomide. With a simple expography that alludes to a residential setting, the Serpa + Zalszupin exhibition highlights the proximity of the color palette and textures and line graphics in the work of both artists. The abstract textures of Serpa's canvases seem transposed onto the beige Bahia marble table tops, one of Zalszupin's favorite coverings. Likewise, the rosewood wood cutouts always present in the designer's furniture speak to the lines and geometricism of the artist's work. With around 25 works, including paintings and drawings, and 17 pieces of furniture, including tables, chairs and sofas, the exhibition enchants and pleases the senses!
