One of the first reinforced concrete buildings in Milan, the
Garage Traversi , built in 1938 by architect
Giacomo de Min, is the scene of an artistic intervention to celebrate rationalism during this year's Design Week . The project, designed by Studio Job , gives a new life to the contemporary-Renaissance construction and still functions as an open love letter to the Italian commune. "Our work portrays the romantic-pop storyline of the contemporary Italian avant-garde. We were inspired by
Milan and its strong contemporary vibe. We wanted something that could project the boldness, confidence and fun that the city is famous for," the studio says.
The Traversi façade features
the message 'oh oh, milano..I love you too…' in a
comic balloon along with various graphic elements:
a giant mouth with its tongue hanging out appears above a frame of colorful illustrations of bananas, rainbows and peace signs. The entire intervention stands out against the view of via Bagutta, making for a cheeky addition to the Milanese architectural icon. The project invites visitors to
share their feelings and views through social media, using the hashtags #ohohmilano and #garagetraversi - showcasing and presenting the reintroduction of the iconic building in the city.
