Guto Requena's installation is a statement about equality and rights

In Praça da República, a large structure – made of industrial carbon steel cylinders, in the colors of the diversity palette – breaks the hostility of downtown São Paulo. It is the work Meu coração bate como o seu (My Heart Beats Like Yours) , by Guto Requena. He was – along with three other artists involved in the production of public art – invited by Intel and National Geographic to create works that involve technology and design to address social and urban issues. The result was filmed and transformed into the series Hack the City . Guto's memorial has a sad inspiration: according to Amnesty International, Brazil is the country that kills the most LGBT people in the world. "It's a great honor, I'm super happy to be part of this project, this contribution to the city. We're celebrating 40 years of LGTB+ activism in Brazil and this memorial is a tribute to this activism”, says the architect.

Inside the building, speakers play testimonies from activists and, at dusk, the name of the building takes on a special meaning, with lights pulsing to the rhythm of heartbeats. Each participant can contribute by sending a testimonial via the WhatsApp application, up to three minutes long. in duration, some of them will be selected to compose the installation.
