Amsterdam lights up for Christmas with Festival of Lights
The Amsterdam Light Festival is in its seventh edition and features 30 lighting interventions by artists, architects and designers from around the world

Light a Wish - The OGE Group is made up of an Israeli artist and a German artist. Inspired by the superstition that blowing on dandelions can grant a wish, the artists created 20 2m versions of the seed to be suspended over the canal.

Starry Night - Architect Ivana Jelic and engineer Pavle Petrovic decided to try to artificially recreate the brightness of the starry sky that inspired Van Gogh to create his iconic painting.

Desire - Composed of architects, designers and artists, UxU Studio is a Taiwanese collective that seeks to take risks and experiment with their work. The Desire installation changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed: sometimes it is a heart, sometimes it is a lip.

Two Lamps - Dutch artist Jeroen Henneman created his lamp especially for the seventh edition of the festival. 65 hand-made copies were produced and two giant versions were displayed on the banks of one of Amsterdam's canals.

This year’s theme is The Medium is the Message , a famous statement by Canadian scientist Marshall McLuhan. The aim is to explore the role of light in conveying a message, with Amsterdam itself being a medium for storytelling. Visitors can enjoy the works on guided tours by boat or on foot.
