The friendly little pig was used by Lina Bo Bardi in the scenography of the play Ubu Rei, 30 years ago!

When studying Lina Bo Bardi's work and attesting to her impact and importance in international architecture, perhaps the image that comes to mind for readers is of a serious and academic intellectual. On the contrary, Lina was endowed with a strong and captivating personality, as well as a quirky sense of humor. One example of this is the Polochon pig.

With two “heads”, this friendly mascot (also called pillow pig) was created by the author and playwright Alfred Jarry in 1885. One hundred years later, Lina brought the character to life as part of the set design for the play Ubu-rei, shown at the Teatro Platypus, in Sao Paulo.
In it, the protagonist is a demagogic, bloodthirsty, gluttonous and old monarch. From the symbolic and surrealist narrative, the degenerate and surrealist nightmare Polochon emerges, made with wood and polystyrene.
To celebrate its 35th anniversary, Galeria Carbono has created an edition of Polochons measuring 20.3 x 22.7 x 40 cm. They were made from 3D scans of the original piece. (Rpeordução/CASACOR)
